The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG) has applauded the governors of the nineteen Northern states for their resolute and coordinated decision to establish a ₦1 billion monthly joint security intervention fund aimed at tackling the worsening security challenges in the region.
Under the new arrangement, each Northern governor will contribute one billion naira monthly to support this collective security initiative. The Group describes this step as “a commendable demonstration of leadership and unity of purpose,” adding that it signals a renewed determination to confront terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes with coherence and strategic coordination.
Speaking on behalf of the Group, its Leader, Chief Jacob Edi, called on the Federal Government to urgently publish the names of individuals, organisations and networks involved in financing terrorism in Nigeria.
“The government possesses the intelligence capacity to identify these actors. Nigerians deserve full transparency, especially on a matter that has cost thousands of lives, destroyed infrastructure and disrupted social and economic stability,”
Chief Edi stated.
The Group noted that institutions such as the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), the Bank Verification Number (BVN) system, National Identification Number (NIN) databases and other statutory monitoring mechanisms provide more than adequate capability to trace and disrupt illicit financial flows that enable violent extremist groups.
It stressed that those who bankroll terror have undermined national cohesion for far too long, and that any further delay in naming and prosecuting them only emboldens their activities.
The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group also commended the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his administration has intensified nationwide security operations with early signs of improved coordination and operational effectiveness.
“Publishing the identities of terrorism financiers—combined with the renewed vigour of our security agencies—will significantly strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and accelerate the restoration of peace across the country,”
Chief Edi added.
The Group emphasised that Nigeria stands at a critical turning point, and that transparency and accountability are indispensable to consolidating the gains already recorded in the fight against insecurity.
