There was widespread jubilation across Warri and Effurun as Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, personally drove through and inspected the ongoing construction of the DSC Roundabout and Enerhen Junction Flyovers, alongside the reconstruction and dualisation of a major section of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Road—projects widely seen as transformative interventions for the metropolis.
Residents, traders and motorists lined the roads in admiration as the Governor walked through Enerhen Junction, applauding what many described as visible, people-focused leadership that is steadily changing the face of Delta State. Chants of solidarity and spontaneous assurances of support for 2027 followed the Governor as he interacted warmly with citizens.
Many residents openly praised Governor Oborevwori for not governing from a distance but choosing to personally monitor projects, listen to the people and respond to their concerns. They assured him of their massive support and votes in 2027, while offering prayers for strength, wisdom and divine guidance as he continues to move Delta State forward.
Addressing journalists after the inspection, Governor Oborevwori said the flyovers and road dualisation projects were clear evidence of his administration’s commitment to practical governance, aimed at easing traffic congestion, boosting economic activities and improving the daily lives of Deltans.
“These projects are about the people. They are meant to reduce hardship, save time and improve the quality of life in Warri and Effurun,” the Governor said.
Demonstrating empathy and responsiveness, Governor Oborevwori revealed that he personally appealed to the contractors, Julius Berger, to temporarily open key sections of the flyovers during the Christmas and New Year festivities to bring immediate relief to road users.
“I know what our people have gone through. That is why I insisted that these flyovers be temporarily opened during the festive period. Leadership must feel the pain of the people,” he stated.
The Governor acknowledged the patience and sacrifices of residents during the construction period, stressing that the short-term inconvenience would yield long-term benefits.
“When there is pain, there will surely be enjoyment at the end. What we are seeing today shows that the sacrifices of our people will not be in vain,” he assured.
Governor Oborevwori disclosed that one side of the Enerhen flyover had already been substantially completed and opened to traffic, while both sides of the DSC flyover were also temporarily opened, significantly reducing the persistent gridlock that once crippled the area.
“Before now, Enerhen had become a nightmare for motorists. Today, there is a clear difference. This is the kind of change we promised, and this is the change we are delivering,” he said.
On the overall timeline, the Governor expressed strong confidence that the three flyovers and the ongoing road dualisation would be completed within the dry season, assuring residents that his administration remains focused on delivery, not excuses.
“You can see the quality of work yourself. By this dry season, these projects will be completed. We are building for today and for the future,” he added.
He further commended Julius Berger for maintaining high construction standards, noting that Delta State’s ability to engage top-tier contractors reflects prudent management of state resources and a determination to deliver infrastructure that will stand the test of time.
In his Christmas message, Governor Oborevwori reassured Deltans of continued peace, stability and inclusive governance under his leadership.
“There is peace in Delta State, and we will continue to build on that peace. I wish all Deltans a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Together, we will take Delta State to greater heights,” he said.
