‘Party Wrecked By Greedy Hyenas’ – Akwa Ibom Obidients Leader Quits Labour Party
Dominic Essien, former senatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP) and leader of the Obidient movement in Akwa Ibom, has announced his resignation from the party.
Essien said his decision to leave the party came after extensive consultations with stakeholders, allies, and supporters across various fronts.
In a letter addressed to the chairman of Ukpum Minya Ward 2 in Mkpat Enin LGA, Essien said his resignation is not a response to the current wave of defections sweeping through the country’s political space.
He said his exit is a strategic move towards advancing his team’s goals and strengthening a political structure aligned with the interests of the people and the nation.
Essien, who also served on the national caretaker committee of the LP, said he was moved by the need to act in the collective interest.
“As a former senatorial candidate of the party, I also resigned from the National Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party,” his resignation letter reads.
“As a leader of the Obidients Movement in Akwa Ibom State, leader of the Labour Party Candidates’ Forum in 2023, and leader of the AKEM NDIEN Movement, providence has assigned me the role of a wayfarer.
“This journey has culminated in us becoming a formidable force in the run-up to, during, and after the 2023 general elections.
“In every people’s journey, there comes a time when change becomes necessary and inescapable — a time to act for the common good.”
Essien added that it had become clear that the party could no longer serve as a viable vehicle for transformation.
“Having realised that our consolidation journey can never be achieved in a political platform that has been neutralised and torn to shreds by greedy political hyenas and jackals,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation to supporters, partners, and party members who remained loyal throughout.
