The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) were notably absent from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2026 Osun Governorship Election
INEC’s Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Musa Olurode, confirmed that the cleared parties include Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
The governorship election is scheduled to hold on August 8, 2026.
In a related development, six members of the House of Representatives from Osun State recently defected from the PDP to the Accord Party.
The lawmakers made the announcement on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Accord Party held in Osogbo.
Clement Akanni, representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, spoke on behalf of the group. The defectors include Mahruf Adewale (Osogbo Federal Constituency), Bamidele Salam (Ede Federal Constituency), Soji Adetunji (Ikirun Federal Constituency), Mudashiru Lukman Alani (Iwo Federal Constituency), Lanre Oladebo (Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency), and Akanni himself.
