The Senate Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated the party’s resilience and capacity for renewal, despite ongoing internal challenges. In a statement released by the caucus and led by Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, members were assured that the PDP remains a formidable political force, committed to emerging stronger from its current internal disputes.
Addressing public concerns about the party’s stability, the caucus stressed that internal disagreements are not exclusive to the PDP. Similar issues, it noted, are present in other major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The caucus urged members to remain steadfast in their commitment and loyalty to the party, expressing confidence that ongoing initiatives by the party’s leadership will reposition the PDP and bolster its competitiveness in upcoming elections.
Senator Moro highlighted the critical role of a strong opposition in a healthy democracy, warning against complacency in the face of a weakening opposition landscape. He cautioned that moving toward a one-party system could erode democratic accountability and governance.
On the issue of political coalitions, the caucus expressed its openness to collaboration, provided such efforts are driven by parties rather than individuals. As the largest opposition party, the PDP asserted its readiness to lead any future coalition efforts, emphasizing the inclusivity and reach of its political platform.
Concluding the statement, the caucus reaffirmed the PDP’s status as a vibrant, nationally rooted political organization. It expressed optimism that the current internal challenges would ultimately produce a revitalized party capable of presenting Nigerians with a credible and effective alternative to the ruling government.
The caucus called on all PDP members to recommit to the party’s founding ideals and to uphold their roles as defenders of Nigeria’s democratic principles.
