The controversy surrounding Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries has escalated, with the Lagos State Police Command now ordering a formal investigation into allegations linked to the cleric.
On January 1, Pastor Okafor stepped aside from his pastoral duties and publicly apologised to his congregation, admitting to “mistakes.” The move, however, failed to quell public scrutiny as fresh allegations continued to surface online.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to invite the pastor for questioning, following widespread social media claims, including allegations of murder.
Police authorities confirmed that the action was taken despite the absence of any formal complaint.
“The CP has ordered the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, even though no official report has been filed,” Lagos Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said.
According to the police, efforts are ongoing to identify individuals making the allegations online and to locate potential witnesses.
The case originated on December 14 after Nollywood actress Doris Ogala released videos accusing Pastor Okafor of exploiting her sexually and emotionally and abandoning her after their alleged relationship.
She later issued a legal notice demanding ₦1 billion in damages, citing threats, intimidation, and unlawful detention following the viral spread of the allegations.
