David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former President of the Senate, has said that his party has gained experience from the most recent election in the Federal Capital Territory, calling it a harsh lesson that has made them more determined in advance of upcoming elections.
Mark informed the public of this during a meeting with political figures, as seen in a video posted by Symfoni TV. He admitted that a lot of them at the gathering helped President Bola Tinubu come into power, but he said that they are now bearing the cost of their choices.
He thanked the head of the NNPP for expressing worries shared by many Nigerians and asked why the Tinubu administration thought that the electronic transfer of election results was a challenging problem.
Citing the recent FCT election as proof of underlying issues, he claimed that the government’s opposition to the real-time electronic transmission of results is suspicious.
Mark also slammed the ruling party for interfering in the internal affairs of opposition parties, asserting that they ought to have the authority to choose their candidates. He highlighted the recent increase in political violence, stating that tensions are already high even before the formal start of the 2027 campaigns.
He accused the APC of being power-hungry and insisted that the ADC is ready to fight for their votes and demand fair elections. In addition, he cautioned the Tinubu government against detaining or harassing opposition leaders, emphasizing that democracy needs fairness, respect, and room for opposition to thrive.
As he put it, “The only reason that APC is desperate is because they are sure they cannot win the next election in a free and fair contest. “Their desperation won’t carry them very far, though.
We are ready for the mayhem that is approaching, as you heard from the speech. We’ll stand by our choices and see that they matter. We have learned lessons from the FCT election. We learned it the hard way, but it’s a difficult lesson.
However, all I want to do is reassure Nigerians that we are committed to the truth, justice, and free, fair, transparent, and reliable elections.
