A Federal High Court in Kaduna has sentenced social media content creator Muhammad Kabir to six months in prison for defacing Nigerian currency in a viral video.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a statement on Thursday, confirmed Kabir’s arrest on May 13, 2025, in the Tudun Wada area of Kaduna State. Known on TikTok and Instagram as @youngcee0066, Kabir was seen in a video spraying naira notes on the floor, stepping on them, and issuing provocative statements in Hausa, daring the EFCC to apprehend him.
He was subsequently arraigned before Justice R.M. Aikawa on a one-count amended charge of unlawfully mutilating naira notes.
The charge stated that Kabir violated Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, by stepping on the currency while recording and uploading the act to social media, an offense punishable under Section 21(1) of the same law.
Kabir pleaded guilty to the offense, prompting prosecuting counsel M.U. Gadaka to request a conviction and sentencing.
Justice Aikawa sentenced Kabir to six months’ imprisonment or a fine of ₦300,000, payable to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
