President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to receive further security briefings on the kidnapped Kebbi schoolgirls and the attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, in a statement, said the President approved the request of the Kwara State Governor and immediately ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed the police to hunt down the bandits responsible for the attack on the church.
President Tinubu was originally expected to depart Abuja today for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in South Africa and later attend the 7th AU–EU Summit in Angola. However, disturbed by the security breaches in Kebbi and the violent attack in Kwara, he suspended his departure.
The President now awaits detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima—who visited Kebbi on his behalf—as well as from the Police and the Department of State Services on the Kwara incident.
President Tinubu reiterated his charge to security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to rescue the 24 abducted schoolgirls and ensure their safe return home.
