President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday in Lagos called on Nigerians to uphold the virtues of patience, tolerance, and neighbourliness imbibed during the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent as essential pillars for national development.
Speaking with journalists after observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Dodan Barracks Eid Ground, the President emphasized that peace, stability, and security are collective responsibilities.
“I pray for peace in the country. The stability, peace, and security of the nation are not just one man’s responsibility—we are all involved. We must remain vigilant and report suspicious movements across the country. These are our responsibilities too,” he said.
President Tinubu urged citizens to sustain the spirit of charity, kindness, and compassion beyond the fasting period, stressing that such values are central to nation-building.
“We give thanks to Almighty God for guiding us through the month of Ramadan. The teachings of giving, peace, security, love for our nation, and kindness to humanity must continue even after Ramadan. We must remain our brother’s keeper,” he added.
Highlighting the common foundation of all religions, the President noted that the worship of one God should inspire unity despite differences in practice, urging Nigerians to reflect spiritual values through their conduct.
He further described nation-building as a shared and inclusive task, calling for greater appreciation of Nigeria’s diversity as a strength.
On his recent visit to the United Kingdom alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, President Tinubu said the reception by King Charles III and Queen Camilla underscores Nigeria’s growing relevance in the global economy.
“Our visit was an opportunity to showcase our diversity and reinforce tolerance among all faiths. Though our styles of worship may differ, we all serve the same Almighty God,” he stated.
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to peace and the well-being of citizens, while expressing gratitude for the President’s continued support.
In his sermon, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Alhaji Sulaiman Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of piety, discipline, and brotherhood beyond Ramadan.
“Today, the world faces tension and uncertainty. This is a time for calmness, not chaos; for wisdom, not provocation. Islam is a religion of peace, discipline, and care,” the Imam said.
The President was accompanied to the prayer ground by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola; as well as family members and close associates.
