President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Wednesday for a two-nation trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has announced.
President Tinubu’s first stop will be Johannesburg, where he will participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20. The Nigerian leader was previously invited to the 2024 Summit in Rio de Janeiro by then–G20 President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil.
The Johannesburg Summit, scheduled for November 22–23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will gather leaders of the world’s major economies, including the European Union, African Union, and leading financial institutions. This year’s theme, “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will guide deliberations across three plenary sessions focusing on:
- Inclusive and sustainable growth;
- Trade, development financing, and debt burden;
- Disaster risk reduction, climate change, just energy transitions, food systems;
- The future of work, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence.
President Tinubu is also expected to hold strategic bilateral meetings aimed at advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening regional and global partnerships on peace, security, and development.
At the end of the G20 Summit, President Tinubu will proceed to Luanda for the 7th AU–EU Summit, scheduled for November 24–25, 2025. The meeting will bring together African and European Heads of State, as well as youth leaders, innovators, and civil society groups, to address shared priorities such as climate action, inclusive development, infrastructure, digital economy, creative industry growth, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
The President will be accompanied by senior government officials including:
- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar;
- Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun;
- Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake;
- Minister of Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole;
- Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of both meetings.
