The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared its willingness to join discussions on a possible opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing optimism that any eventual alliance would support the party’s candidates.Political news analysis
The party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, made this known during an interview on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme.
According to Dickson, the NDC remains open to engaging with other opposition parties but stressed that it would be premature to predict the outcome of such discussions.
“As an opposition leader, our party, the NDC, will be open to conversations within that space,” he said.
The former Bayelsa State governor noted that neither he nor anyone else should pre-empt the coalition talks, adding that he hopes the discussions will ultimately result in support for the NDC’s candidates.
Dickson, who currently represents Bayelsa West in the Senate, said the party was not claiming superiority over other opposition groups, explaining that coalition talks would naturally progress after the nomination processes of participating parties are concluded.
The NDC has recently faced legal challenges after a Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, set aside an earlier judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the party as a political party.Political news analysis
Despite the setback, the party has continued to express confidence in its future and preparations for the 2027 elections.
