Benue Community in Lagos Endorses Dr Olofu for 2027 Senate Race
In a historic move, leaders and members of the Benue South Senatorial District resident in Lagos have unanimously endorsed Dr. David Olofu for the 2027 senatorial election.
The endorsement was formally pronounced by the Och’Idoma K’Ulagos, Chief Luke Akubo, at a well-attended gathering of Idoma, Igede, and other Benue South stakeholders held at Dover Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
Chief Akubo blessed Dr. Olofu’s aspiration and urged all Idoma people in Lagos to work collectively for the actualisation of his senatorial ambition. He described Dr. Olofu’s consultation with the Lagos-based diaspora as unprecedented.
“This is the first time in history that an aspirant has come to consult with us here in Lagos. It shows that we will not be forgotten or sidelined when he gets to the Senate. We will work for you, and we will speak to our people at home to vote for you. You have inspired confidence that you are a good leader,” Chief Akubo said.
Dr. Olofu, a former Commissioner of Finance in Benue State and aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the Lagos engagement was part of his inclusive consultations across Benue South, both at home and in the diaspora.
He stated that his aspiration to represent Benue South in the Senate in 2027 was driven by a commitment to unity, inclusivity, equality, and collective development across the district.
“If given the mandate, I will work tirelessly to ensure development in all parts of Benue South without discrimination, securing a better future for generations to come,” he said.
Dr. Olofu described Benue South as standing at a defining moment in its history, stressing the need to build strong legislative frameworks that would protect the district’s interests and enhance its relevance nationally and globally.
“This ambition is not about me. It is about all of us—our unity, our shared purpose, and the legacies we must build for the next generation,” he added.
At the event, Dr. Olofu unveiled his legislative agenda, which he described as a comprehensive blueprint focused on delivering tangible and impactful development to the people of Benue South.
He also pledged not to spend more than two terms in the Senate if elected, emphasising accountability and people-centred leadership.
“For the first time in our political history, our people in the diaspora are being consulted, and their voices are being heard. Their ideas matter, and they must be part of the decision-making process that shapes our future,” he said.
Leader of the delegation, Sir John Ngbede, commended the Lagos-based Benue South community for their massive turnout and support. He said Dr. Olofu’s aspiration aligns with the principles of equity, fairness, and justice, noting that Apa/Agatu and Oju/Obi Federal Constituencies are yet to produce a senator in Benue South.
Sir Ngbede described Dr. Olofu as well-prepared to lead the district toward unprecedented development based on his antecedents.
Former member of the House of Representatives for Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, Chief Samson Okwu, revealed that the Igede people within the ADC had conceded the senatorial ticket to Apa/Agatu in the spirit of unity. He expressed hope that after Dr. Olofu’s second term, Idoma leaders would reciprocate by supporting an Igede senatorial aspiration.
Other speakers, including Chief Adaba Abah (popularly known as Mad Lion), Dr. Kelvin Odatse, Chief Abeje Egwa, and Rear Admiral Andy Odeh (rtd), also urged the people of Benue South to rally behind Dr. Olofu, whom they described as a capable and credible candidate for the Senate.
