Shafa’atu Ali Agbo has recounted the moment her husband, Colonel M. A. Al-Makura, was taken away following allegations linked to a suspected coup plot, describing what she called a painful and confusing experience that has left her family in distress and uncertainty.
Speaking in a video shared by Punch, Agbo explained that the incident began when one of her husband’s soldiers contacted her at home to confirm her whereabouts. According to her, the soldier later arrived in person and informed her that Colonel Al-Makura, who served as a commanding officer, had been summoned to military headquarters for an urgent official matter.
She said she was not initially alarmed, noting that sudden calls to duty were not unusual in military service, especially for senior officers, and added that she had not spoken with her husband earlier that day, which made the summons seem routine.
However, the situation quickly escalated. Agbo recounted that after some time, she was informed that her husband briefly exited the meeting and instructed his escort to take his belongings back home, assuring them he would return once the meeting concluded. According to her, that moment marked the last time he left under normal circumstances.
She further explained that when his escort arrived at the barracks, they encountered an unusual and tense atmosphere at the gate. People were reportedly gathered, standing and whispering, creating an unsettling scene that immediately raised concern among those present.
In her account, the escort reportedly sensed that something was wrong, and shortly afterward, it became apparent that another officer had been assigned to replace Colonel Al-Makura. The sudden change, she said, deepened fears that an internal military action or disciplinary move had taken place.
Agbo described the days following the incident as emotionally overwhelming, stating that she has struggled with fear, sleeplessness, and uncertainty about her husband’s whereabouts and condition. She emphasized that the lack of clear communication has made the situation even more distressing for the family.
She also defended her husband’s character, describing him as a disciplined and committed officer who had served with dedication and maintained a strong sense of professionalism throughout his career. According to her, she finds it difficult to believe he could be involved in any actions that would compromise his integrity or the values he has upheld.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no independent confirmation of the specific allegations surrounding the alleged coup attempt, and military authorities have not publicly provided full details regarding the circumstances of Colonel Al-Makura’s removal or detention.
The unfolding situation has generated public attention, particularly due to conflicting accounts and limited official information. Families of military personnel involved in sensitive investigations often face periods of uncertainty while internal inquiries or security operations are conducted.
Security analysts note that in cases involving alleged coup plots or high-level military investigations, movements of officers and sudden changes in command structure are not uncommon, as institutions act swiftly to secure facilities and prevent potential instability.
However, such developments often leave relatives in distress due to the absence of immediate explanations or formal communication, creating emotional strain alongside public speculation.
For Agbo and her family, the uncertainty continues, with her account highlighting the human impact behind military operations and allegations that remain under investigation.
In her words, “So his escort, on getting to the barracks, from the gates they saw people standing, murmuring.”
She added that the silence and confusion surrounding the incident have only deepened her anxiety, as she continues to wait for clearer information about her husband’s situation and hopes for his safe return or formal clarification of his status.
