Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna state, on Monday, arrived at the state’s high court for hearing on the charges preferred against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai is standing trial alongside one Amadu Sule on charges bordering on alleged abuse of office and fraud.
While walking towards the courtroom on Monday, the ex-minister brought up the subject of the planned national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) scheduled for April 14, 2026 in Abuja.
“So tomorrow is our convention, right?” el-Rufai asked.
“God willing,” the associate responded.
The former governor is expected to appear before the federal high court in Abuja on April 14 for his bail application in another criminal charge filed by the ICPC.
On March 24, el-Rufai and Joel Adoga were arraigned by the ICPC at the federal high court in Abuja on charges bordering on alleged fraud and money laundering.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The David Mark-led ADC faction has scheduled its national convention for April 14 in Abuja amid ongoing litigation.
On April 1, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced its decision to derecognise the Mark-led ADC faction following a review of the court of appeal judgment.
The electoral umpire said it would no longer engage with the Mark and Nafiu Bala factions.
