The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee for the Rivers State House of Assembly primaries has disqualified 63 aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to a report by Leadership on Monday, May 11, 2026, many of those affected are believed to be loyal to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while 33 aspirants cleared for the primaries are known supporters of Nyesom Wike.
Among those disqualified are former factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Oko-Jumbo, and former Obio/Akpor Local Government chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo.
According to the committee’s report, several aspirants failed to meet the requirements stated in the APC constitution. The report said some nominations came from party members who were not financially up to date.
Other reasons for the disqualifications included failure to provide voter cards, missing party membership documents, conflicting personal information, and submission of incomplete affidavits.
The committee also listed irregular membership details, insufficient nominators, and attempts to bribe committee members as part of the reasons for non-clearance.
Out of the 33 aspirants cleared to contest in the primaries, 16 are current members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
