The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, has reaffirmed that meaningful investment in teachers remained one of the surest ways of securing the future of society.
He stressed that no educational system could rise above the quality, knowledge and capacity of those entrusted with the responsibility of teaching the younger generation.
Engr. Ehiwarior stated this when he officially flagged off the second edition of a three-day Capacity Building Seminar for Public Primary School Teachers across Ika South Local Government Area, which is holding in Agbor.
The seminar, themed “Empowering Primary School Teachers with 21st Century Skills for Effective Teaching and Learning,” is designed to equip participants with relevant knowledge, modern teaching methodologies and practical skills required to enhance their effectiveness in the classroom.
The Local Government Chairman said his administration’s decision to sustain the capacity-building programme was informed by the recognition that teachers occupy a central position in the development of society.
According to him, the task of building a stronger and more competitive educational system must begin with deliberately strengthening those who stand at the foundation of teaching and are responsible for nurturing young minds.
He commended public primary school teachers across Ika South for their dedication and commitment to the development of pupils, noting that their responsibilities extend beyond classroom instruction to nurturing the children , helping to build their character and preparing them for a complex future.
Ehiwarior assured the teachers that his administration would continue to support them to impart the right knowledge and values to pupils across the local government area.
He disclosed that the Ika South Local Government was making arrangements to carry out free medical check-ups and examination for all public primary school teachers in the area as part of efforts to promote healthy living and awareness.
The Chairman maintained that investing in teachers “guarantees the future”, adding that his administration remained committed to creating the necessary environment and opportunities for teachers to continually improve their skills and efficiency.
He said the continued training and development of teachers would help build a stronger, more competent and future-ready educational system for Ika South Local Government Area, while improving the overall quality of teaching and learning in public primary schools across the area.
The three-day seminar is expected to expose participants to contemporary teaching methods and 21st-century skills capable of improving learning outcomes and preparing pupils to meet the demands of an increasingly changing world.
