A frontline politician Senator Ehigie Uzamere has condemned the attack on Daniel Osagie Idedia, popularly known as MC Porkupyne, in Benin City, Edo State, describing the incident as an assault on human dignity and democratic values.
Uzamere, in a statement, called on security agencies to launch an immediate, thorough and impartial investigation into the attack and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
He insisted that political differences should be resolved through dialogue, debate and the ballot box rather than violence, intimidation or physical attacks.
“Politics is a contest of ideas, not a licence for violence. No political ambition is worth a human life, and no disagreement can ever justify such barbaric conduct,” he said.
The former lawmaker urged security agencies to identify and prosecute anyone who planned, sponsored, facilitated or carried out the attack, stressing that no individual should be shielded from prosecution because of political affiliation or influence.
He also called on political leaders to condemn the incident, warning that silence in the face of political violence could embolden perpetrators and encourage further acts of lawlessness.
Uzamere said the incident underscored the need to uphold the rule of law and guarantee equal protection for all citizens, irrespective of their political beliefs or social standing.
Expressing solidarity with Idedia, popularly known as MC Porkupyne, he said the victim deserved justice and Nigerians deserved answers.
“Justice must be served. No one is above the law, and political violence must have no place in our democracy,” he said.
