The Grassroots Mobilization Network, GMN, on Tuesday said it “welcomed” the collection of nomination forms for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but declared that “contrary to the ongoing shenanigans from the President’s angle,” he will not run as a sole candidate in 2027.
In a statement issued in Abuja, GMN National Secretary, Usman Bala Idris, said the “Nicodemus collection of the presidential form through a proxy” only underscores Tinubu’s unpreparedness to lead, “as witnessed in the last three years.”
“This is a president who cannot point to one achievement that is impactful to the Nigerian people except for propaganda and lies,” the GMN said.
“In his quest to remain in office without achievement, he compromised all national institutions, including INEC, the judiciary, and the EFCC, in order to remain in office,” the group alleged.
“The business of governing a country of over 200 million citizens demands a forthright candidate who will demonstrate capacity from inception.
“Unfortunately, as an aspirant seeking a return ticket, Tinubu is being helped to pick nomination forms. Conversely, the expectation of Nigerian voters is for him to stand upright, armed with his past three years achievements, to collect his nomination forms,” the statement read.
The GMN further alleged that “it has never happened in the history of Nigeria where a sitting President is directly involved in destroying political parties in order to frustrate contest.”
“This will corroborate what Engr. Buba Galadima said, that even a dead body will defeat Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election,’” the GMN declared, framing the 2027 race is “Tinubu Vs Nigerians.”
The statement comes amid ongoing controversy over the African Democratic Congress, ADC, leadership dispute before the Supreme Court, with several civil society groups accusing the Presidency of interfering in opposition party affairs.
