Governor Umo Eno of Akwa-Ibom State has directed the state Ministry for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene and the Akwa Ibom State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency to ensure the establishment of a water borehole in each of the 369 wards of the state.
Pastor Eno gave the directive during the 2nd Anniversary celebration of Golden Initiative For All, GIFA, in Uyo, noting that development is in partnership with the Initiative in its Water Of Life project.
He expressed satisfaction at GIFA’s achievements in 8 thematic areas in its 2-year existence, touching the lives of the people, especially those in the hinterland, and complementing the ARISE agenda of his administration.
The governor directed the AKRUWATSAN and the Ministry of Water Resources, Sanitation, and Hygiene to immediately set up modalities to collaborate with GIFA “to ensure that within the next year, every ward in every local government area of the state has a GIFA water project.
In a remark, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady and Chairman of the GIFA Board of Trustees, Lady Helen Eno-Obareki, noted that, established to touch lives and make a positive difference for underprivileged families, GIFA has made remarkable strides in all 8 thematic areas.
Lady Obareki noted that in the last 2 years, GIFA has touched and impacted 53,987 lives, pledging the initiative’s resolve to do more.
Speaking on behalf of the wives of governors in attendance, the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, commended the coordinator of the office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Obareki, for the impact recorded by the pet project and assured her of collaboration where necessary to achieve more.
