The Delta State Chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), DCN Fred Obi, has congratulated Deltans and Nigerians on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, describing the peace, progress, and unity being enjoyed in Delta State as evidence of the strength and benefits of democratic governance.
In a statement issued on Friday, Obi urged citizens not to lose faith in Nigeria’s democratic journey despite the economic and social challenges facing the country, stressing that democracy remains the best platform for sustainable development and national growth.
He commended the people of Delta State for their commitment to democratic values, peaceful coexistence, and active participation in governance, noting that the success of any democracy depends largely on the confidence and support of the people.
According to him, the relative peace, stability, and security across Delta State demonstrate that democratic leadership can deliver positive outcomes when supported by responsible governance and active citizen participation.
The CNPP Chairman also praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for providing purposeful leadership and promoting peace, security, and development across the state.
Obi said the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and stakeholder engagement has helped sustain harmony and create an enabling environment for growth and progress in Delta State.
While acknowledging the challenges confronting Nigeria, he urged citizens not to become discouraged, emphasizing that every successful nation has passed through periods of difficulty before achieving stability and prosperity.
“History has shown that every enduring democracy passed through periods of trials before attaining stability and prosperity. Nigeria’s present circumstances should therefore strengthen our resolve to work together in building a stronger nation rather than weaken our faith in democracy,” he said.
He called on political leaders, institutions, and citizens to continue promoting unity, tolerance, accountability, and peaceful political participation as vital ingredients for sustainable national development.
Obi reaffirmed the commitment of the CNPP to advancing democratic ideals, good governance, and the protection of the rights and welfare
