Former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s prolonged internal crisis.
Suswam announced his decision in a resignation letter dated February 4, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Mbagber Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
In the letter, the former governor said his exit was prompted by the unresolved leadership crisis and deepening divisions within the PDP, which he described as long-standing and damaging.
“I consider it honourable and necessary to step aside while wishing the party well, should it one day find the courage and consensus to resolve its long-standing issues,” Suswam wrote.
Although he did not disclose his next political destination, Suswam has recently been seen engaging with leaders and key figures of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), fuelling speculation about a possible defection.
Political sources also suggest that the former governor may be considering a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as alignments begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Suswam who was a foundation member of the coalition that culminated into ADC has distanced himself from the coalition.
