The Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Monaco Ventures Nigeria Limited, a frontline private security firm, Mr Lucky Ehiwuogwu Monye has commended President Bola Tinubu for halting the purge of the echelon of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), following the appointment of Tunji Disu as Inspector -General of Police (IGP) in place of Kayode Egbetokun’.
Fear had risen within the NPF circles of a purge of the echelon of the force following the appointment of Disu, a sub-apex officer, to the apogee of the rank of the force.
Insiders had said that no fewer than 29 officers of the rank of Deputy and Senior Assistant Inspectors – General( DIGs and AIGs) could be affected by the purge.
However, unlike the established precedents, the media recently reported that President Tinubu has intervened to halt the otherwise imminent purge, citing the need to retain treasured experience and skills which the officers possessed .
Reacting to the development, Monye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, told the media in a brief chat by telephone said that the President’s intervention was most strategic and well thought out.
Monye, founder of Monye Ehiwuogwu Lucky Foundation, said the reported intervention of the President was guided by overall national interest.
According to him, retaining the AIGs and DIGs would enable the force access and utilize their vast relevant experiences and skills for effective deployment to the great national security cause.
Monye noted that the officers whom he described as the generals of the force had, in their long period of service, earned enough professional experiences and competency that would be handy in tackling crime.
He stressed that the intervention was also significant on account of current national experience when insecurity had become a major national challenge.
He urged the officers who had now been spared the trauma of the purge to actively collaborate with IGP Disu to whittle insecurity across the country in order to justify their exemption from what was an otherwise imminent purge.
Monye equally advised the new IGP to carry the officers along to enhance the capacity of the force under his watch to secure Nigerians and their property.
