APC Ika South Assembly Candidate Urges Parents to Prioritise Girls’ Education, Calls on Female Children to Believe in Their Potential
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ika South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) for the 2027 general elections, Hon. Mrs Cordilia Anyangwu, has called for greater attention to the welfare, education and empowerment of the girl-child, stressing the need to create an environment where every girl can fulfil her potential and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Anyangwu made the call in a statement issued by the Cordinator of Hon Mrs Cordilia Anyangwu Media Team,Chief Chuks Eboagwu to mark this year’s International Day of the Girl-Child, in which she emphasised that investing in girls’ education, welfare and personal development was essential to building stronger families, progressive communities and a better society.
She expressed concern that cultural barriers, discrimination and other forms of inequality continued to limit the opportunities available to many girls, thereby hindering their ability to realise their dreams and contribute fully to the growth and development of society.
Describing the girl-child as an invaluable member of the family and society, the APC flag bearer urged parents who still deny their daughters access to education to reconsider such practices and embrace the principle of equal educational opportunities for both male and female children.
According to her, educating the girl-child equips her with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to become economically independent, make informed decisions and contribute positively to the well-being of her family and the wider society.
She maintained that there was no justification for denying girls educational and developmental opportunities on the basis of gender, noting that girls possess the intellectual capacity and potential to excel when given the necessary support and encouragement.
The Ika South APC candidate also drew attention to the remarkable achievements of Nigerian girls and women in academics, sports, entertainment, banking, aviation and other professional fields, including occupations historically regarded as the preserve of men.
She noted that these accomplishments demonstrated what girls could achieve when barriers were removed and opportunities were made available to them.
Anyangwu expressed optimism that greater investment in girls’ education, mentorship and empowerment would inspire more young females to follow in the footsteps of successful Nigerian women and become future leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs and agents of positive change.
She, however, clarified that advocating greater opportunities for girls did not amount to neglecting the rights and aspirations of boys, emphasising that every child deserved access to education, care, protection and the opportunity to succeed, irrespective of gender.
GIRLS URGED TO BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES
Anyangwu further encouraged girls to overcome self-doubt, develop confidence in their abilities and take advantage of legitimate opportunities available to them to pursue their ambitions and achieve personal fulfilment.
She urged them to remain committed to their education, acquire relevant skills, uphold positive values and cultivate the determination necessary to overcome challenges on their path to success.
She stressed that when girls are adequately supported and empowered, the benefits extend beyond the individual to families, communities and the nation at large.
The APC candidate called on parents, community leaders, educators, government institutions and other stakeholders to work collectively towards protecting the rights of the girl-child, eliminating discriminatory practices and ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to learn, grow and contribute to society.
She concluded that a society that invests in its girls invests in its future, urging all stakeholders to make the welfare and development of the girl-child a shared responsibility.
