Cracks may have taken place either between President Tinubu and South West APC or between President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke as contrary to political expectations ahead of 2027, the 2026 re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially come under legal challenge by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as they on Monday, September 7, 2026 formally filed separate petitions before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
RadarrNews reports that the tribunal on Monday formally commenced the process by displaying the two petitions on the notice board of its secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
The development followed confirmation by the tribunal’s Secretary, Pefe Belemore, that petitions had been filed to challenge the outcome of the August 15 governorship election.
Belemore had earlier disclosed that the necessary notices would be pasted on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
Oyebamiji listed Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents in the suit.
The PDP also filed a separate petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, through its candidate, Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola.
The respondents in the PDP petition are Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
The two petitions seek to contest the result that returned Adeleke as governor for another term following the August 15 poll.
The formal display of the petitions marks an important step in the election dispute process and is expected to be followed by the service of court processes on the respondents.
As of the time of this publication, Pelumi Olajemgbesi, Spokesperson of Governor Adeleke Campaign who claimed that Governor Adeleke has a political alliance with President Tinubu is yet to react. Same as Governor Adeleke himself, same as former Governor Wike who laid political claim to the victory of Governor Adeleke. Also, neither President Tinubu nor SouthWest APC is yet to comment to explain how the court case is still in line with the acclaimed 2027 political alliance between President Tinubu of APC and Governor Adeleke of Accord Party.
Checks on social media showed Nigerians mocking Wike, President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke for logical political explanation over the election court case existence which runs contrary to the 2027 political alliance the three politicians earlier laid claim to in the eyes of the media some weeks ago when Governor Adeleke newly got re-elected.
