The newly deployed Area Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ika South Command, Assistant Commandant Michael Okwuonyekwu , on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Ika South Local Government Council, with both sides reaffirming the need for stronger collaboration towards sustaining peace and security in the area.
The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to strengthen their working relationship and discuss measures to further enhance security across the Local Government Area.
The engagement focused on the security situation in Ika South, with emphasis on closer coordination among relevant stakeholders and the need to sustain initiatives that promote peace, protect lives and property , and create a secure environment for residents and businesses.
While welcoming the Area Commander to his office, Ehiwarior said he was pleased with the level of collaboration between his administration and security agencies operating in the area. He expressed optimism that the deployment of the new Area Commander would further strengthen the security architecture of the Local Government Area. He noted that effective security depends on sustained cooperation among government institutions, security agencies and the communities they serve.
The Council Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in Ika South in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities. He stressed the importance of maintaining a strong partnership with the various security formations operating in the Local Government Area, noting that their effectiveness is vital to the peace and development of the communities.
Ehiwarior congratulated Assistant Commandant Michael Okwuonyekwu on his deployment to Ika South and expressed confidence that his leadership would contribute positively to the maintenance of law and order in the area.
He said the Council looks forward to a mutually beneficial working relationship with the NSCDC under the new Area Commander, particularly in strengthening community security and creating an environment conducive to development.
“We look forward to a productive partnership that will further enhance security and community development in our dear Local Government Area,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Area Commander, Assistant Commandant Michael Okwuonyekwu, appreciated the Council Chairman for the warm reception and expressed his readiness to build on the existing relationship between the NSCDC and the Local Government Council.
He said the Corps remained committed to working closely with the Council and other stakeholders to promote peace and security within Ika South , stressing the importance of effective collaboration with local authorities and members of the community.
The Area Commander noted that security is a collective responsibility requiring constant communication, cooperation and timely response to emerging concerns.
The courtesy visit ended with both parties expressing their readiness to sustain dialogue and cooperation in the collective interest of the people of Ika South.
