The ancient town of Eziogu came alive with color, tradition, and community spirit during the recent Ogu Day celebration, an annual cultural gathering that brings together sons and daughters of the land. This year’s edition drew an impressive lineup of dignitaries, political leaders, and well-wishers, with one of the most notable attendees being Dr Emmanuel Enesi Ozigi. Dr Ozigi expressed deep joy at being in the midst of his people, describing the atmosphere as a warm homecoming and a reminder of the strength found in unity and shared heritage.
A major highlight of the event was Dr Ozigi’s role as the chief launcher of the Ogu Day festivities. In that capacity, he used the platform not only to celebrate culture but also to make a significant political introduction. He formally presented the incoming ADC House of Representatives candidate for the Okene and Ogori-Magongo Federal Constituency to the gathering, urging the community to rally behind the candidacy as part of a broader push for inclusive representation and grassroots development.
In his address to the assembly, Dr Ozigi welcomed all invited dignitaries with heartfelt gratitude, noting that he was overwhelmed by the turnout and the love shown by the people of Eziogu. He commended the Ogu Day organizing committee for their diligence, creativity, and commitment to preserving cultural identity while creating space for dialogue on community advancement. His remarks set a tone of appreciation and collective responsibility that resonated throughout the event.
Beyond the cultural celebration, Dr Ozigi turned attention to pressing developmental needs within Oziogu. He outlined two key projects earmarked for the community, with a combined cost running into millions of naira. Speaking as chief launcher, he called on all present to begin making financial commitments toward the first project immediately. In a show of personal sacrifice and leadership, Dr Ozigi donated the sum of ₦10 million to kickstart the initiative. His wife, Mrs Emmanuel Enesi Ozigi, also contributed ₦500,000, with other attendees making additional pledges.
Dr Ozigi’s appeal sparked a wave of generosity among the dignitaries present. Distinguished leaders responded to his call with notable donations, including Senator Ahmed Salawu Ogembe and Hon Sanni Salawu Ogembe, each supporting the cause with ₦1 million. Hon Tijani Damisa also donated ₦1 million, while several other leaders and dignitaries whose names could not all be mentioned at the event made their own contributions. The collective response underscored the community’s willingness to invest in its own progress when called to action by trusted leaders.
In closing, Dr Ozigi expressed profound appreciation for the outpouring of support. He offered prayers and blessings to all donors, declaring that wherever the funds were drawn from, the givers would not lack. The event ended on a note of renewed hope, with Ogu Day not only preserving tradition but also mobilizing tangible resources for the future of Oziogu. The day stands as a testament to what can be achieved when culture, leadership, and community goodwill converge.
