As the countdown to the 2027 general elections begins to gather momentum, the “OK Movement” has officially declared its support for a joint presidential ticket featuring Mr Peter Obi and Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

At a high-stakes summit held at the Bon Sunshine Hotel in Enugu on Wednesday, the group unveiled a strategic roadmap aimed at capturing the Southeast through the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC).

The summit, which drew coordinators from across the five Southeast states, culminated in a communique outlining a vision for a “new Nigeria.” The movement emphasised that the Obi-Kwankwaso partnership represents the most viable path toward a united, productive, and corruption-free nation.

Central to the group’s resolution is the desire to build a meritocratic society. The movement pledged to champion a country where the “son of a nobody” can rise to prominence without the need for influential connections – a sentiment that resonated strongly with the delegates present.

Recognising Nigeria’s complex social fabric, the movement acknowledged that the country comprises over 300 ethnic nationalities. They committed to navigating these diverse orientations by promoting peace, social justice, and human rights as the bedrock of their democratic engagement.

The communique, signed by key regional leaders, highlighted that an Obi-Kwankwaso presidency would prioritise a shift from a consumption-based economy to one anchored on production. This shift is expected to address the chronic economic challenges currently facing the federation.

Besides economic reforms, the OK Movement promised that its principals would deliver qualitative education and robust healthcare delivery. The group argued that these sectors have suffered from neglect and require the “probity and accountability” that Mr Obi and Mr Kwankwaso supposedly embody.

A significant portion of the resolution focused on human capital development. The movement asserted that investing in the Nigerian people is the only sustainable way to ensure long-term stability and global competitiveness.

Directives were issued to state, Local Government Area (LGA), ward, and polling unit coordinators to begin “aggressive grassroots sensitisation.” This mobilisation effort is designed to integrate the movement’s structure into the Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC) throughout the Southeast.

The legal and administrative arm of the movement, led by Barr. Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, the National Legal Adviser, emphasised that the mobilisation must be systematic. The goal is to ensure that every voter in the region understands the “Obi-Kwankwasiya” philosophy.

The Southeast Zonal Director -General, Barr. El-Shaddai Ikeh, urged supporters to remain disciplined and focused.

He noted that the movement’s strength lies in its ability to translate popular sentiment into actual votes at the polling unit level.

State coordinators from across the region were present to ratify the document, including Hon. Victor Onyia for Enugu and Chukwudi Onyejekwe for Anambra. Their presence signalled a unified front for the movement within the Igbo heartland.

Prof. Zulu Ofoelue of Abia State and Christian Nwanebu of Imo State also appended their signatures, reinforcing the call for a shift in regional  political alignment toward the NDC.

They argued that the 2027 election requires early and decisive action.

Dr Roland Sunday Edeh, representing Ebonyi State, rounded out the leadership signatures. His involvement underscores the movement’s intent to penetrate even the most contested political terrains in the Southeast.

The communique took a firm stance on the management of public funds. It promised a “corrupt-free administration” that would be held to account.
