The organisers of the prestigious Silverbird Man of the Year Awards have conferred a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award on late Niger Delta icon, Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, in recognition of his decades-long contributions to national development and minority advocacy.
The honour was presented during the 20th anniversary edition of the awards ceremony held on March 1, 2026, at Eko Hotels and Suites. The colourful event drew prominent Nigerians from across politics, business and entertainment, celebrating individuals whose work has significantly shaped the country’s progress.
Receiving the award on behalf of the family was Delta State Commissioner for Riverine Infrastructure, Hon. Ebikeme Clark. In his acceptance remarks, he conveyed the family’s appreciation to Silverbird Productions and its founder, Ben Murray-Bruce, for immortalising the legacy of the late nationalist barely a year after his passing.
He described Clark as a principled and courageous leader who dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, equity and fairness for all Nigerians, particularly the people of the Niger Delta. According to him, the late elder statesman’s voice resonated far beyond regional lines and earned him respect as a unifying national figure.
Ebikeme Clark noted that his father’s lifelong commitment to truth and fearless advocacy left an enduring example for both his family and associates. He said the values of humility, firmness and integrity were central to Clark’s public and private life.
He further emphasised that the late leader’s role in championing minority rights and resource justice would remain a source of inspiration for future generations. Representing the Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, he expressed profound gratitude for the recognition.
Clark, who died in 2025, was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost elder statesmen and a staunch advocate for national unity and the rights of oil-producing communities. The Silverbird Man of the Year Awards remains one of the country’s leading platforms for honouring excellence and impactful service across diverse sectors.
