The Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Lamido, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC)
In a letter dated 22 April, addressed to the APC ward chairperson in Isa South, Isa Local Government Area, Mr Lamido said he was dismayed by his unfair treatment in the APC in Sokoto State.
Mr Lamido, who is the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Primary Health Care Development and Disease Control, said persistent divisions, lack of cohesion, and unresolved disputes have significantly hindered the progress and unity of the APC in the state.
“This decision has not been taken lightly. However, the ongoing internal party crisis, suspicion, and an unfair party leadership style in Sokoto State have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my membership in good conscience.
“The persistent divisions, lack of cohesion, and unresolved disputes have significantly hindered the progress and unity that the party once stood for.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served and contributed to the party during my time as a member. I wish the party well in its efforts to overcome its present challenges and move forward in unity”, the lawmaker said.
The media understands that Mr Lamido has been having a running battle with the leadership of the APC since he was elected senator in 2023.
