For 16 years Viktor Orban was Prime Minister of Hungary. He ruled with an iron fist, rode rough shod over Hungarians. He was dictatorial.
He cultivated the friendship of Russia’s Vladamir Putin and the wannabe strong man Donald Trump. Trump loved him and invited him over to the US a couple of times and showered praises on him just like Orban did on Trump.
Orban strongly supported Trump’s election bid in his second term and Trump decided to reciprocate the support in the Hungarian election.
Trump sent his Vice President, JD Vance to Budapest to campaign for Orban.
But the people of Hungary massively voted Orban out in a landslide. Orban the strong man, the dictator capitulated even before the votes were fully counted.
The people spoke with their votes and the strong man was humbled if not humiliated.
He accepted defeat, pledged cooperation and continued service to his country.
Orban did not, could not rig the elections, to his eternal credit.
Victorious Mr Magyar said the people’s vote had liberated Hungary from Orban’s misrule.
Tinubu and his government must learn from Hungary and allow a free and fair election that ‘ll guarantee peace and progress.
We must avoid chaos.
