Before Nigeria became known worldwide for producing football stars, one young captain helped put the country on the global football map.
Nduka Ugbade, born on September 6, 1969, captained the legendary Golden Eaglets team that won the inaugural FIFA U-16 World Championship in China in 1985. That historic victory made Nigeria the first African nation ever to win a FIFA tournament and marked the beginning of a golden era for Nigerian youth football.
As captain, Ugbade led a talented squad that inspired millions of Nigerians and showed the world that Africa could compete with the very best.
His achievements did not stop there.
