The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ika South State Constituency in the 2027 Delta State House of Assembly election, Hon. Mrs. Cordilia Anyangwu, has stepped up her grassroots consultations, engaging the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Agbor Command, as part of efforts to consolidate the support for her ahead of the election.
Anyangwu, who recently led her entourage on a consultation visit to the security organisation appealed to members of the VGN to support her aspiration, assuring them of an inclusive and people-centred representation, if elected.
The APC candidate said her ambition was not about personal gain but a mandate to serve the people and work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to address the challenges confronting the constituency.
She particularly emphasised the need for closer collaboration between elected representatives and voluntary security organisations, noting that security remained a critical catalyst for sustainable development.
According to her, a safer Ika South Local Government Area would provide the necessary environment for businesses to flourish, attract investment and improve the quality of life of residents.
“My mandate is for the people, and I am ready to work with our volunteer security organisations to secure Ika South and make the constituency safer and more conducive for businesses to thrive,” she said.
Anyangwu commended members of the VGN for their commitment and sacrifices in safeguarding communities across Agbor and Abavo kingdoms, describing their service as invaluable to the peace and stability of the area.
She assured the security volunteers that their efforts and selfless contributions to community safety would not be forgotten.
The APC flag bearer also called for collective support for all APC candidates in the 2027 elections, from the presidential level to the governorship, Delta North Senatorial District and Ika Federal Constituency.
She specifically canvassed support for the APC candidate for the Ika Federal Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Osazuwa, urging stakeholders to work together for the success of the party across all levels.
Responding, the Patron of the VGN, Amb. Victor Animele, thanked Anyangwu and her entourage for deeming the organisation worthy of inclusion in her ongoing grassroots consultations.
Animele expressed confidence in the candidate’s chances at the 2027 poll, while urging her to broaden her proposed security partnership to accommodate other voluntary security organisations operating within Ika South Local Government Area.
He particularly appealed for support in the provision of utility vehicles and other operational logistics, stressing that such assistance would significantly strengthen the capacity of voluntary security groups to extend their security coverage of the constituency.
The Agbor VGN Commander, Chief Collins Agbiageri, in his remarks, reiterated that the organisation remained apolitical and does not belong to any political party.
However, he observed that Anyangwu’s humility, accessibility and demonstrated respect for grassroots stakeholders had endeared her to members of the organisation.
He assured the APC candidate of the goodwill of VGN members, while also urging her to remain committed to the promises made during the consultations.
Agbiageri prayed for her success at the polls and encouraged her to sustain the grassroots engagement beyond the electioneering period.
The Treasurer of the organization, Chief Cyril Iketin, welcomed the guest on behalf of VGN. He acknowledged the humble nature of Anyangwu, adding that her humility would also lead her to victory.
However, Chief Iketin assured the guest that VGN would back her aspiration.
Also speaking, Comr. Marvin Enyosa, Community Advocate and Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Youth Mobilization, commended Anyangwu for personally taking her aspiration to the grassroots and directly engaging community-based stakeholders.
Comr. Enyosa described the consultation as an unprecedented initiative capable of strengthening the relationship between the candidate and the people she seeks to represent.
He said the decision to engage the VGN demonstrated Anyangwu’s understanding of the importance of grassroots participation and community partnership in governance.
He expressed optimism that the consultation would translate into massive support for the APC candidate from communities and stakeholders across Ika South Local Government Area.
