A group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, said to be loyal to Nyesom Wike, has rejected the outcome of the recent opposition meeting held in Ibadan.
In a statement released by the group’s chairman, Abdulrahman Akinoso, and secretary, Abiola Olaonipekun, they made it clear that they were not part of the gathering and do not support any decision taken there.
The faction, which is led by former deputy governor Hazeem Gbolarumi, said it was not informed about the meeting before it took place.
They also questioned the legitimacy of the summit, saying it did not have the proper backing to take serious political decisions. “The so-called Ibadan summit is a ruse. It was merely an assemblage of individuals, not a legitimate convergence of political parties,” the statement read.
The group also rejected reports that the meeting agreed on a single presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. It stressed that no official body of the PDP, either at the state or national level, approved participation in such a meeting.
“For any coalition or alliance to be binding, it must be anchored on institutional authorisation, not informal gatherings lacking due process,” it added.
The faction went further to deny any form of alliance with other political parties, including the African Democratic Congress ( ADC)
According to the group, decisions of that nature must follow proper discussions within the party and respect its constitutional process
