In a rare show of potent cultural diplomacy, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, has continued his working visit to Sierra Leone with a high-level meeting with the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, President Julius Maada Bio, and the First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio.
During the meeting, the Asagba of Asaba briefed President Bio on his engagements in Sierra Leone since his arrival, particularly regarding efforts aimed at promoting cultural and traditional collaborations across Africa.
Asagba Azinge stressed the need for African traditional rulers to unite for the advancement of peace, security and development on the continent.
He also informed the Sierra Leonean leader of his visit to Njala University and his readiness to support the growth of legal education in the institution.
President Bio commended the monarch’s visit and praised his initiative in fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties among African traditional institutions.
The Sierra Leonean President, who currently chairs the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), pledged support for the initiative and promised to facilitate a conference of West African traditional rulers to further promote development, peace and security in the region.
First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio also applauded Asagba Azinge for taking bold steps toward unity among African monarchs.
She and the President expressed willingness to visit Delta State, particularly Asaba, in appreciation of the royal visit and cultural diplomacy.
In a symbolic gesture, Chief Barr. Philips Ejike Nwokolo and Chief Patrick Ndili presented the traditional Akwa Ocha attire to President Bio and the First Lady respectively, on behalf of the Asagba and the people of Asaba Kingdom.
