Dr Peter Adejoh, one of the governorship aspirants in the last governorship primary of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Benue State, has rejected an offer to serve as the running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Herman Hembe, ahead of the 2027 general election.
IDOMA VOICE gathered that Adejoh turned down the offer after Hembe and some party leaders approached him following the controversial primary election.
Recall that Hembe was declared winner of the ADC governorship primary, an exercise that was marred by controversy and rejected by some stakeholders.
A reliable party source told IDOMA VOICE that Adejoh made it clear that he did not join the governorship race with the intention of becoming a deputy governorship candidate.
According to the source, Adejoh insisted that it was a Benue South governorship candidate or nothing.
“He told them he did not contest the primary with the intention of becoming a deputy governorship candidate. His position remains that it is a Benue South governorship candidate or nothing.
“He wished the party well but made it clear that he is not interested in becoming the deputy governorship candidate. He told them plainly,” the source said.
Following Adejoh’s rejection of the offer, the party is said to have begun searching for a new running mate for Hembe.
According to the source, those being considered include Abeje Egwa and another potential candidate from the Apa/Agatu axis.
IDOMA VOCIE recalls that some stakeholders within the ADC were alleged to have worked against Adejoh during the party’s governorship primary.
Before the primary election, Adejoh had embarked on extensive consultations across the nooks and crannies of Benue State in pursuit of the party’s governorship ticket.
Idoma Voice reports that, in the 50 years since Benue State was created, no person of Idoma extraction has been elected governor of the state.
