The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantale, has described the award conferred on the party’s presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) as a vote of confidence in his leadership and inclusive approach to governance.
Dantale said the recognition reflected the confidence Nigerians, particularly members of the Christian community, had in Makinde’s leadership credentials and vision for the country.
He expressed optimism that the recognition, alongside what he described as the governor’s acceptance among members of the Islamic faith in Oyo State, signalled hope for national unity and recovery under Makinde’s leadership.
The APM chairman spoke at the weekend during the investiture ceremony held at the Ecumenical Centre in Abuja.
Describing Makinde as a detribalised leader who transcends religious, ethnic and sectional boundaries, Dantale said the governor had consistently demonstrated respect for all segments of society, irrespective of their backgrounds.
He expressed confidence that Makinde would deliver on his promise to “Reset Nigeria,” adding that the country needed leadership capable of restoring public confidence, strengthening national cohesion and addressing its numerous challenges.
Dantale urged Nigerians to rally behind the APM presidential candidate, whom he described as a credible alternative for the country’s leadership.
The party chairman also congratulated Makinde for what he characterised as his willingness to challenge the status quo, stressing that Nigeria belonged to all citizens, regardless of tribe, religion or place of origin.
He maintained that the country’s progress depended on the emergence of leaders committed to inclusiveness, fairness and national unity.
