The Deputy Director General, North, of the Obi/Kwankwaso Movement, OK Movement, Prince Suleiman Abubakar, has condemned the alleged attack on Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, by political thugs in Benue State.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by Prince Abubakar, he described the incident as “babaric, undemocratic and a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.”
He said the attack, which reportedly targeted Obi and members of his delegation during a visit to Benue, was aimed at intimidating opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We strongly condemn the attack on our principal, Mr. Peter Obi, by political thugs in Benue. Violence has no place in our politics. Nigerians deserve to hear all candidates without fear of intimidation,” Abubakar said.
The OK Movement leader called on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He also urged political leaders across party lines to restrain their supporters and ensure a peaceful political atmosphere.
“Our democracy has come to stay. We must not allow thuggery and violence to define our political space. The OK Movement stands with Mr. Peter Obi and we will not be cowed, until we deliver him as the next president of Nigeria,” he added.
Abubakar reaffirmed the commitment of the Obi/Kwankwaso Movement to mobilizing support across the North for a united opposition front in 2027.
The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from civil society groups and political stakeholders who called for tolerance and respect for democratic rights.
