The Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has charged more than 200 newly recruited permanent staff to uphold discipline, integrity, ethical conduct and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The charge was given by the Chairman of the Commission’s Board, Dr. Austin Obidi, and the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Olorogun Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, during an onboarding and orientation programme for new and existing permanent staff at the Commission’s headquarters in Asaba.
Obidi urged the new employees to regard their appointment as an opportunity to contribute to the improvement of healthcare delivery and the effective implementation of the state’s health insurance programme.
He advised them to become worthy ambassadors of their families and the Commission, stressing that discipline, integrity and responsible conduct must guide their activities.
The Board Chairman also urged the staff to familiarise themselves with the Commission’s policies, operational guidelines and established procedures, noting that strict compliance would promote efficiency and strengthen public confidence in the health insurance system.
He charged them to place the interests and welfare of enrollees at the centre of their duties, saying the quality of their conduct would have a direct bearing on the Commission’s ability to achieve its mandate.
Akpoveta, while welcoming the new staff, outlined the Commission’s vision and expectations within the health component of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda.
He said the essence of contributory health insurance was to protect individuals and families from the financial burden associated with accessing healthcare, urging staff to ensure that enrollees receive quality, timely and respectful services.
The DSCHC boss warned that unethical conduct would not be tolerated, emphasising that the Commission’s operations were built on trust and professionalism.
According to him, staff are expected to familiarise themselves with the Commission’s staff handbook and Standard Operating Procedures while embracing teamwork, confidentiality, innovation, dignity and fairness in their dealings with the public.
Akpoveta also commended Governor Oborevwori for approving the recruitment of autonomous staff for the Commission, describing the decision as a significant step towards strengthening the state’s health insurance workforce.
He said the recruitment would expand the Commission’s capacity to provide efficient and effective health insurance services to residents across Delta State.
The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Health Monitoring, Mr. Christopher Otene, said the state government remained committed to making health insurance accessible and affordable to Deltans.
Otene urged the new employees to support the government’s efforts by ensuring that enrollees receive efficient, responsive and quality services.
The orientation programme featured interactive sessions and a question-and-answer segment, during which participants sought clarification on their responsibilities and various operational issues.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to developing a competent and responsive workforce capable of advancing universal health coverage and delivering its vision of “M.O.R.E. Agenda.
