Only enduring effective attitudinal change among Nigerians can ensure sustainable national rebirth and redemption.
This was the view of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation for the Correction of Moral Decadence ( FCMD, Dr. Joseph Danley, at an attitudinal reform seminar for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force ( NPF), Ondo State Command, held recently.
Dr. Danley, dwelling on the imperative for effective change of attitude by all Nigerians, said that no society could develop without a positive culture of patriotism among its citIzenry.
According to him, without the right mental attitude based on the right mix of virtues, sustainable growth and development would remain an illusion.
Danley dwelt on legion sub-themes, including punctuality, honesty, selflessness, respect for authority and the law, self-restraint, productivity, accountability, cost- efficient time management, the fear of God, the right vision, altruism, team play and sacrificial living and patriotism, stressing that police personnel, as indeed, all other Nigerians, needed to realize and live by the truth that there is no magic wand to sustainable development.
Stressing that there was no easy or cheap walk to sustainable significant wholesome development, he advised Nigerians to appreciate that everyone had a role to play in the national development efforts, and that it was up to them, not foreigners, to develop their country by their sustained selfless efforts.
The FCMD boss said that for attitudinal change to be effective and bear the desirable fruits, all citizens, across all strata of the society, must consistently live by worthy examples.
He urged the brass of the NPF to humanely treat their subordinates who must also show deference to their superiors and honestly and promptly comply with all lawful instructions in the line of duty.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police ( CP) in the state, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the FCMD for what he termed their well thought out seminar and its underlying philosophy.
CP Ohagwu expressed delight at the huge turnout of officers and men at the training which he described as topical, timely and well intended and delivered.
He urged the officers and men to live by what they learnt at the seminar which attracted hundreds of the NPF drawn from the state command.
The event is a continuation of ongoing seminars for NPF state commands by the FCMD, following an approval by the Office of the Inspector- General of Police, as part of efforts at reforming the security organization .
