Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; has said healthcare remains a fundamental responsibility of his administration.
Oborevwori, who stated this on Thursday at the commissioning of the Enoch and Folu Adeboye Dialysis Centre at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Asaba, added that through the M.O.R.E. Agenda, his government was committed to improving medical infrastructure, expanding access to specialised care and ensuring that the people received quality healthcare close to their homes.
The Governor, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo; said the dialysis centre complemented the government’s efforts and would reduce the burden of referrals, long-distance travels and, most importantly, help save lives.
“This is more than a medical facility. It is a centre of hope and life-saving facility for people living with kidney disease. For patients and families who have had to travel long distances or struggle with the high cost and limited availability of dialysis services, this centre will bring much-needed relief.
“With three Nefro 4000A dialysis machines, three dialysis patient couches, a modern water treatment plant, three B-Cluch UPS systems and a 30KVA generator, the centre is equipped to provide essential dialysis services in a safe and reliable environment.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I sincerely appreciate Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, his wife, Pastor Mrs. Folu Adeboye, and all those who contributed to making this project possible”, he said.
Oborevwori urged the management and staff of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) to maintain the facility to the highest professional standards, stressing that the equipment must be properly used, regularly maintained and protected from avoidable deaths.
“Above all, patients should receive competent, dignified and compassionate care. To patients who will use this facility, I say: this centre is for you. May it bring relief to you, comfort to families and renewed hope to all who come here for care”, the Governor added.
Speaking on the occasion, the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof Epiphany Azinge; SAN, said historically, the missionaries came to Asaba with the Bible, established schools and hospitals, but failed to invest in healthcare.
He noted that the Dialysis Centre represented what the missionaries could not do in form of Corporate Social Responsibility, and commended the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) for the vision and foresight to donate the Centre, which would contribute significantly to saving lives and make the FMC truly a centre of excellence.
The Monarch recalled that the Asaba community, on 22nd April this year, donated one dialysis machine each to the FMC and Asaba Specialist Hospital, in recognition of the fact that the traditional institution, and by extension the community, needed to partner with the government to strengthen the healthcare system.
