In a significant political development that reflects growing unity and strategic alignment within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister George Ogbormeh has emerged as the party’s consensus sole candidate for the Ika Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation took place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Pace Hotel on Charles Street, Agbor, Delta State, where party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from the two local government areas comprising Ika Federal Constituency gathered in a strong demonstration of solidarity and shared political purpose.
The event marked not only a formal endorsement of Ogbormeh’s candidacy but also a reaffirmation of the PDP’s internal cohesion and determination to consolidate its political strength within the constituency.
Announcing the outcome of the consensus process, Chairman of the Consensus Committee, Hon. Kenneth Omorojie, described Ogbormeh’s emergence as the result of extensive consultations, mutual trust, and the party’s collective commitment to electoral success.
According to Omorojie, the PDP remains well-organized, deeply rooted, and strategically positioned to secure victory in future elections. He expressed confidence in Ogbormeh’s ability to provide effective, responsive, and people-oriented representation at the National Assembly.
He noted that the consensus arrangement demonstrated the political maturity and unity of the party, adding that such cohesion would serve as a strong foundation for electoral success.
“Barr. George Ogbormeh possesses the experience, credibility, and understanding of legislative processes needed to effectively champion the interests of the Ika people at the federal level,” Omorojie stated.
In his acceptance speech, Barr. Ogbormeh expressed appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, describing his emergence as both an honour and a solemn call to service.
He pledged to justify the trust placed in him through dedicated and impactful representation, promising to prioritize policies and projects that would bring meaningful development and stronger federal presence to Ika Federal Constituency.
Highlighting his familiarity with legislative responsibilities, Ogbormeh described his candidacy as a homecoming motivated by a genuine desire to serve and advance the socio-economic wellbeing of his people.
“I am fully prepared for the task ahead. With your support, we will take Ika Federal Constituency to enviable heights. I will work tirelessly to ensure that our voices are heard, our needs are met, and our constituency receives its fair share of national development,” he said.
The consensus exercise and affirmation process were conducted in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies, ensuring transparency, credibility, and orderliness throughout the proceedings.
Also present at the event were the PDP Delta North Chairman, prominent party leaders within Ika Federal Constituency, and a large gathering of enthusiastic party faithful whose attendance added colour and significance to the occasion.
