The Grassroots Mobilization Network (GMN), a support group of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared that Nigerians will democratically vote President Bola Ahmed Tinubu out of office in the 2027 general election and return him to Lagos as a private citizen.
“Mr. President, you must go. In 2027, Nigerians will send you back to Lagos—not by force, but through the power of the ballot,” the group declared.
The group was reacting to President Tinubu’s remarks on Tuesday during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, where he vowed not to relinquish power without a political fight.
According to the President, “Those who would take power from me will try. We will wrestle each other to the finishing point.”
Responding, the Deputy Secretary-General of GMN, Sadiq Adamu Lwafu, said democracy is not a wrestling match but a contest decided by the people through free and fair elections.
“Mr. President is right that politics is a contest. But in 2027, it is Nigerians—not political intimidation or threats—who will decide. Democracy is not wrestling. The ballot is the only ring that matters,” Lwafu said.
He criticised the President’s defence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), arguing that the electoral body must remain independent and impartial.
“You cannot speak for INEC. By rushing to defend the Commission, you have only reinforced public suspicion about its independence. The umpire must speak for itself.
“Where was Mr. President when his Chief of Staff allegedly encouraged Hon. Leke Abejide to undermine the ADC? The Presidency cannot preach fairness while being accused of interfering in opposition politics,” he stated.
On the economy, the group dismissed the President’s claims that his reforms were yielding results, insisting that ordinary Nigerians were yet to feel any meaningful relief.
“After three years in office, telling Nigerians that prosperity is still on the horizon is asking them to continue enduring pain for an uncertain promise. The absence of ASUU strikes does not put food on the table, reduce inflation, create jobs or stop the killings in Benue, Plateau and Zamfara. Nigerians want results, not reassurances.”
Lwafu maintained that the ADC and its support base were prepared for the 2027 elections and urged Nigerians to use their votes to bring about political change.
“Mr. President, your fate will be determined by the Nigerian people. In 2027, they will peacefully and democratically send you back to Lagos through the ballot box. The era of ‘it’s my turn’ is over. The era of ‘it’s the people’s turn’ has begun.”
