Nigerians can now report suspected fake drugs to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control ( NAFDAC) through its Greenbook app, email sf.alerts@nafdac.gov.ng or call 0800-162-3322.
By the same token, adverse reactions to medicines can be reported through the MedSafety app or by emailing pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng.
The agency provided the contacts in a video shared on Saturday, urging consumers to report suspected fake, substandard and unregistered medical products, as well as unusual reactions to medicines and vaccines.
NAFDAC said reports from the public could help it investigate suspicious products, identify safety concerns and protect consumers.
For suspected fake or unregistered products, consumers can also use the NAFDAC Greenbook website at greenbook.nafdac.gov.ng.
Those who experience unusual reactions after taking medicines, receiving vaccines or using other regulated medical products can submit reports through the MedSafety app, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Reports can also be made through the e-reporting platform on NAFDAC’s website.
Consumers can check whether a product is registered by entering its registration number on the NAFDAC Automated Product Administration and Monitoring System portal at registration.nafdac.gov.ng.
The agency also reminded regulated businesses and other stakeholders that they must notify NAFDAC and follow the required procedures when recalling products.
Recall notifications should be addressed to the Director-General through the Director of Post-Marketing Surveillance and include details such as the product name, registration number, manufacturer, batch number, expiry date, reason for the recall, distribution details and proposed action.
Notifications can be sent through NAFDAC’s designated post-marketing surveillance channel or submitted in hard copy at the nearest agency office.
For general enquiries, Nigerians can call 0700-162-3322, email nafdac@nafdac.gov.ng or visit nafdac.gov.ng.
The agency urged consumers to provide relevant information and supporting evidence when submitting reports, saying public complaints could help it identify safety concerns and investigate potentially dangerous products.
