Team Edo delivered a remarkable all-round performance in the Day-3 of the Niger Delta Games tagged Edo2026, recording outstanding victories across Swimming, Athletics, Taekwondo, Para Powerlifting, Basketball, and Field events.
At the Swimming competition held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Team Edo secured an impressive six gold medals out of nine events contested.
Gold medalists include:
• Precious Tissa – 50m Freestyle (Male)
• Lucky Ayeni – 50m Freestyle (Female)
• Kolade Otunla – 50m Backstroke (Male)
• 4x100m Freestyle Relay (Male) – Albert Akintokun, Biloha Simeon, Precious Tissa, Kolade Otunla
• Medley Relay (Female) – Nkonye Ziitaven, Peremobere Joy, Ifelouwa Fumilayo, Lucky Ayeni
• Peremobere Joy – 100m Breaststroke
Other podium finishes:
• Kolade Silva – Silver (200m Individual Medley)
• Nkonye Ziitaven – Silver (200m Freestyle)
• Imegbodofo Teminijesu – Bronze (100m Breaststroke Male)
On the track, Osawe Salami put up a strong showing in the men’s 400m Hurdles, clocking 51.73 seconds in a powerful display of speed and endurance.
In Taekwondo, Emmanuel Ogbevoen clinched gold in the 68kg category with a brilliant and determined performance.
Solomon Okundaye stormed to gold in the Men’s 800m Final, finishing with an impressive time of 1:56.34.
In the field events, Rebecca Njoku clinched gold in the women’s Hammer with an impressive 30.20m throw.
Emmanuel Chakamumudu also secured gold in the men’s Hammer, recording a massive 41.57m throw to edge out David Bosa of Team Delta, who settled for silver, while Goodnews Musa of Rivers claimed bronze.
The victory further adds to Chakamumudu’s earlier gold medal triumph in the Shot-put event.
In Para Powerlifting, Nicholas Ojomah won gold in the 72kg category, ahead of Abia (Silver) and Imo (Bronze).
Favour Imasuen added to the medal tally with a silver medal in the women’s Hammer, throwing 24.60m.
In Basketball (Female), Team Edo edged Delta 20–18 to advance to the quarterfinals, having earlier dominated Abia 47–6 in their opening match.
In the Chess Male Rapid category, Nwachukwu John of Rivers State emerged champion to claim gold. Team Edo’s Osayande Kingsley delivered a strong performance to secure silver, while Evbuomwam Henry Oghogho earned bronze.
In the Female Rapid category, Omoruyi Sandra Osarugue of Edo State clinched gold. Nwankwo Michelle Chiamaka of Abia State took silver, while Effiom Esther Erin of Cross River State settled for bronze.
Meanwhile, in the Handball Male category, Team Edo recorded a convincing 25–17 victory over Rivers State, showcasing strength and coordination on the court.
Meanwhile, Blessing Osagiede Abies defeated her Akwa Ibom opponent to advance to the quarterfinals in the 67kg category.
