Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads in its history. With abundant natural resources, a large and youthful population, vast agricultural potential, a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and enormous human capital, the country possesses all the ingredients necessary to become one of the world’s leading economies.
But the fundamental question Nigerians must ask is this: Who will lay the foundation for that greatness?
Great nations are not built overnight. They are built through visionary leadership, sound economic policies, strong institutions, effective security systems, quality education, accessible healthcare and deliberate investments in the welfare and productivity of their citizens.
Nigeria’s potential is undeniable. However, potential without effective leadership and responsible governance will remain nothing more than an unrealised promise.
While economic reforms, industrialisation, infrastructure development and increased investment are necessary for national growth, these efforts must ultimately improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians. An economy cannot be described as truly successful when millions of citizens are struggling with poverty, insecurity, unemployment and rising living costs.
The foundation of a great nation must first be the welfare of its people.
A nation cannot build sustainable prosperity when its citizens cannot meet their basic needs. A country cannot achieve its full potential when insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods. Neither can a nation become a global economic power without investing heavily in education, healthcare, human capital development and the empowerment of its young population.
This is why the conversation about Nigeria’s economic future must go beyond projections and political promises. The real measure of national progress is the condition of the average Nigerian.
Today, many Nigerians are experiencing severe economic hardship. Families are struggling to cope with the rising cost of living, businesses are facing difficult operating conditions, and many young Nigerians are searching for meaningful opportunities to build their future.
In my considered view, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has failed to meet the expectations of a significant number of Nigerians. The hardship experienced by citizens and the persistent concerns surrounding insecurity, poverty and economic pressure have demonstrated the urgent need for a new political direction.
Nigeria needs leadership that places the people at the centre of governance.
We need a government that will protect lives and property, create employment opportunities, support local industries, invest in education and healthcare, strengthen institutions and ensure that the nation’s resources are used for the benefit of all Nigerians.
It is against this backdrop that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has positioned itself as part of a rescue mission for Nigeria. The ADC and its supporters believe that the country deserves a credible alternative that can restore hope, rebuild trust in government and create an economy that works for the people.
As the Director-General of ADC Grassroots Mobilization for Change (AGMC), I strongly believe that the future of Nigeria must be shaped by the people. The voices of ordinary Nigerians must not only be heard during elections; they must remain central to the process of governance.
AGMC is committed to grassroots mobilisation and to encouraging Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process. The transformation of Nigeria cannot be achieved by political leaders alone. It requires the collective participation of citizens who are determined to demand accountability, good governance and responsible leadership.
The time has come for Nigerians to critically examine the direction of the country and make informed choices about the future they desire.
In my view, the APC government should be retired through the democratic process, and Nigerians should be given the opportunity to choose a new direction. Democracy gives citizens the power to determine who governs them, and that power must be exercised responsibly and peacefully.
However, the responsibility for rebuilding Nigeria does not rest solely on political parties. Civil society organisations, professionals, religious leaders, traditional institutions, business owners, young people but every responsible citizen have a role to play in building the Nigeria we desire.
