The Reset Nigeria Movement has commended the people of Osun State for their resilience, courage and determination in defending their democratic choice, saying the outcome of the governorship election is a powerful reminder that no political establishment is unbeatable when the people decide otherwise.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the Movement, Osi Iwenekhai, said the Osun experience had reaffirmed that “the most powerful tool in the hands of Nigerians is their vote.”
He urged Nigerians, ahead of the 2027 general elections, to remain steadfast in their convictions and exercise their democratic rights without fear, intimidation or manipulation.
“Leadership must be earned through the trust of the people and sustained through accountability, competence and a genuine commitment to public service,” Iwenekhai said.
The Movement also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for standing firmly with Governor Ademola Adeleke throughout the political struggle, describing his support as an example of courage, loyalty and solidarity in democratic politics.
It recalled Makinde’s earlier declaration that “The 2027 election won’t be PDP versus APC; it would be Nigerians versus APC,” adding: “In this round of the fight, Nigerians won.”
According to the Movement, the lesson from Osun goes beyond the state, demonstrating that citizens who remain resolute and refuse to surrender their convictions can overcome even the most formidable political establishment.
It expressed optimism that Nigerians would draw from the Osun experience and stand even stronger in 2027 to defend their democratic choices.
The Movement, however, mourned those who lost their lives during the election-related violence and called for accountability, stressing that “no political ambition is worth the life of a Nigerian.”
“Elections must never become a battlefield,” it said, while urging Nigerians to remain vigilant, informed and courageous in choosing leaders with the competence, character and capacity to move the country forward.
“Osun has shown what is possible when the people stand their ground. In 2027, Nigerians must stand even stronger. The will of the people must prevail.
It’s time to Reset Nigeria.”
