Minister of Works, David Umahi, has sued blogger and media entrepreneur Linda Ikeji, Stella Ifeoma Okengwu and Linda Ikeji TV Limited over social media publications he alleges damaged his reputation.
Umahi filed the suit at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, seeking the withdrawal of the publications, public apologies and damages running into billions of naira.
The suit, marked FCT/CV/264/26, was filed on August 24, 2026, through the minister’s lawyer, Abiodun Owonikoko, SAN.
In the court documents, Umahi alleged that a series of publications made between March 2025 and March 2026 amounted to what he described as a sustained “campaign spree” against him.
He alleged that the publications, circulated through platforms associated with Linda Ikeji and other social media accounts, contained accusations of bribery, corruption, intimidation, sexual depravity, land grabbing and sexual harassment of women, among other allegations.
Umahi specifically accused Okengwu, identified in the suit as the Chief Executive Officer of Winhomes Global Estate Services, Lagos, of posting several videos on her Instagram account, @thewomanking1, containing the allegations.
The minister further alleged that some of the videos were subsequently circulated to a wider audience through Linda Ikeji TV and its Instagram platform.
According to Umahi, the publications also questioned his suitability to continue holding public office.
He said he had attempted to resolve the matter out of court before commencing the action, alleging that his lawyers wrote to the defendants demanding an unreserved public apology, the removal of the disputed materials and an undertaking not to publish similar content in the future.
He said the demands were not met, leaving him with no option but to seek judicial redress.
Among other reliefs, Umahi is asking the court to declare the publications false, malicious and defamatory and to order the defendants to retract and permanently remove them from their platforms.
He is also seeking orders compelling the defendants to publish written and video apologies on the same platforms where the alleged defamatory materials appeared.
The minister is further asking the court for a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their agents and affiliated entities from publishing further materials he considers defamatory of him.
In addition, Umahi is demanding N500 million in general damages and N2 billion in exemplary damages.
He is also seeking 10 per cent annual interest on any judgment sum awarded by the court, as well as N500 million in legal costs.
Umahi has additionally asked the court to issue an interim order restraining the defendants from making further publications of the alleged defamatory nature pending the determination of the suit.
The allegations contained in the suit are yet to be determined by the court.
