The Obidient Movement has rejected reports claiming that security agencies were planning to file corruption charges against former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections
In an interview with newsmen, the group’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, dismissed the allegations, insisting that Obi had no criminal record and had never been indicted by either the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the Department of State Services (DSS).
Tanko’s remarks followed reports suggesting that Obi and other prominent opposition figures within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could be targeted amid the ongoing legal and political challenges facing former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Other political heavyweights reportedly mentioned include former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Tanko maintained that neither Obi nor his supporters would be intimidated.
He stressed that Obi’s reputation for integrity had long been established and affirmed that the movement was prepared to respond to any perceived attempts at harassment or political pressure.
On whether the alleged actions against opposition leaders could be connected to the 2027 elections, Tanko said the link was “evident,” describing the situation as politically- motivated.
He alleged that certain legislative actions and political manoeuvres were part of broader efforts to influence the upcoming polls.
Despite the claims, Tanko reiterated that the Obidient Movement remained resolute, and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and committed to democratic principles.
