Several people are feared dead, while about 30 others have been declared missing following a fresh attack by suspected armed herdsmen in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Saturday evening.
Sources said the assailants had earlier invaded Ochobo community, where they allegedly killed two people.
Their initial attempt to attack Agadagba community was reportedly repelled by residents. However, the attackers returned on Saturday evening and opened fire on the community, killing several people and forcing residents to flee for safety.
About 30 people are said to remain unaccounted for following the attack.
A resident, who spoke to our reporter from a hiding place, said the attackers stormed the community unexpectedly and began shooting sporadically.
“They came shooting sporadically. Many people were killed, while several others escaped into the bush. As I speak with you, about 30 people are still missing, and we don’t know whether they are alive or dead,” the source said.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Benue State, where rural communities continue to face deadly attacks and displacement.
